BYOD – BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE

The vision of the New Zealand Curriculum, is to foster young people who will be “confident, connected, actively involved and lifelong learners”. In the 21st century, eLearning is becoming fundamental to enabling this vision.
We wish to create a more accessible, diverse, and dynamic learning environment for Pasadena Intermediate School students, one that reflects the world we live in.
BYOD is an option at Pasadena Intermediate School. We welcome students bringing their own devices to school to use as a tool for learning. The only requirement for devices is that they can use a wireless network, and are used on battery power.

The School Can Provide

  • Access to the Internet (WWW) via a secure Wi-Fi connection, during the school day.
  • A wireless connection filtered to provide safe content.

Conditions Of Use

  • Users will comply with the school’s Computer and Internet Use Agreement.• The school takes no responsibility for loss or damage occurring in school.

Procedure

  • Both the student and Caregiver sign the .’BYOD’… agreement as part of your enrolment form.
  • The student can use the device in class.

Security

Each student will be responsible for keeping his/her BYOD device safe from damage and safe from theft. Students take their devices home at the end of each school day. Insurance will be the family’s responsibility. In the cases where students are not able to keep their device with them (such as Physical Education classes, Play breaks, Assembly), there will be in class arrangements available to keep all devices safe from theft /weather / etc.

Charging

A student will need to start the normal BYOD day the night before – each student will need to take responsibility for having put their device to charge overnight so that it has a full charge for the next day. If a student runs out of battery during the day, it is unlikely there will be opportunity to charge the device during the school day. Devices will not be allowed to used via AC power.
