Rumaki Enrolment
Rumaki Enrolments for 2023 are now closed.
Pasadena Intermediate School offers a Rumaki (Level 1 total immersion Māori) with up to 40 students who learn through Māori philosophy and a Māori context.
While offering a full immersion Māori programme, students also have access to English medium classes where they will learn Reading and Writing have access to our specialist teachers and are able to participate in our sporting, cultural and gifted and talented programmes.
Because this school operates the Rumaki as a special programme, the Board of Trustees has put criteria for enrolment in place.
Waitītko Rumaki operates 2 classrooms of Level 1 full immersion students.
The Principal in consultation with the Board of Trustees will decide on the number of students who can enrol each year. The number of places we have available for new enrolments in 2022, is 20.
All applicants will be interviewed by the Rumaki teacher to assess their Māori proficiency.

The timeframe for enrolments is:
- Enrolments close on Wednesday 31 August
- Language proficiency interviews will then be organised after this date. These may be done via Zoom if needed.
- Applicants will be told of the outcome by Friday 16 September

Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following priorities:
First Priority – The level of proficiency in Te Reo Māori is consistent with the level of classroom i.e. full immersion – Level 1 which is assessed by the school. The proficiency of an applicant will be ranked on a scale of zero to five, zero being an applicant with no Te Reo and 5 being an applicant that has a high level of proficiency
Second Priority – Applicants who are siblings of current and ex-students
Third Priority – Students who have received at least 2 years of Māori-medium education at Westmere School, Richmond Road School, Freemans Bay School, Newton Central School as part of Te Kāhui Ako o Te Waitematā or have completed one year in the differentiated te reo Māori programme at Pasadena Intermediate
Fourth Priority – Any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the school or a child of a member of the board of trustees
Fifth Priority – Students who have received Māori immersion education at other schools than at the previously mentioned school We
