Principal's News

It has been great to get back to the regular routine of school without any disruptions. I know speaking to the students and teachers, they have enjoyed the previous three weeks.
It is pleasing to see so many students being involved in all of the extra-curricular activities that are available at Pasadena. I know some students have had a busy few weeks with our Roadshow, Production and the numerous sports that are currently taking place. One of our key Strategic Areas is our community, so it has been great to see a number of parents coming into school and sharing their expertise with our students. They have really enjoyed the different perspectives and being part of the school.
The teachers are also monitoring students involvement to make sure they are not over committed and that they still spend the right amount of time in the class learning.

Opening of the new buildings & Blessing

There is definitely light at the end of the tunnel with the completion date of 13 August being confirmed by the contractors as the date the Music, Pasadena and Food Room will be completed.

With these dates confirmed we can now advise that we will have a blessing for the above areas on Friday 14 August starting at 7.00 am, sunrise. We would love to see as many parents attend as possible.

We are also having a formal opening of all the buildings by our Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern on Thursday 3 September starting at 10.45 am. The opening will be followed by tours of the new buildings and a light lunch. More details and invitations will be sent out in the next week.

2021 Enrolments

This year we have streamlined the enrolment process by constructing an online form. To access the form, please go to https://enrol.etap.co.nz/ and use the school code 1437. Please note that all out of zone enrolments need to be submitted by 1 September 2020. To view our school zone, please access our school website on https://pasadena.school.nz/enrolment/school-zone/.

Sponsorship of Sports Teams

A big thank you to Burger Fuel Pt Chevalier for sponsoring our sports teams with player of the day awards. I know the students have appreciated these.

School Cross Country

Next week, Pasadena Intermediate will be holding its annual Cross Country run. This event will be held on Monday 10th August and the first group of runners will start at approximately 2pm.

This is a compulsory event and if your child is unable to run/walk it next Monday please either write a signed note or email your child’s teacher personally. Please ensure they have their P.E gear in their bags ready for next Monday afternoon.

Parents are most welcome to come along and support their child(ren).

I am also looking for any parents who can help with marshalling during this time, please. We need at least 15 to help and make sure this event runs smoothly. If you are able to assist please notify Ms. Hudson (Kirsten) via email: kirsten@pasadena.school.nz

Roadshow

On Monday 3rd August, our students performed their first Pasadena Roadshow concert at Pt Chevalier Primary. This was enthusiastically received, including cheering and the occasional standing ovation from the audience, which was very rewarding for the performers. There was a wide range of acts including waiata, solo singing, improvisation, contortion, instrumentalists, lyrical and Tongan dance, magic and to the delight of many watching, Tik Tok. Throughout this week and next week, the group will visit four other local primary schools. This is a great opportunity to showcase the talents of our students and to develop them as performers.

Congratulations to all the participants: Finlay, Abel, Archie, Kyra, Lucy, Georgia, Tui, Huia,  Penelope, Trelise, Paki, Sophie, Mala, Beatrice, Leva, Eva, Latanoa, Oushen, Kimylie, Silvie,  Margot, Rory, TInihuia, Mihi, Kahu, Ilaana, Mata, Molly, Marco, Charlotte, Neveah, Stacey, Honey, Nora, Jasmine, Hannah, Tipene, Gus, PK, Milan, Harry, Owen and Eljay. Thanks to Mary Pretorius for her support on the day, Mr Uele and parents for help with the Tongan group costuming and a special acknowledgment to Ms Donnelly for conceptualising, organising and rehearsing the show.

Honours

Due to COVID 19 and the extended lockdown period, we have decided to change the amount of certificates students need to receive their honours for the remainder of 2020. Students will now only need 12 certificates in total: 3 x Proud, 3 x Active, 3 x Safe and 3 x Acheiver (this removes the additonal 3 certifcates that were originally needed). Once students have their 12 certificates, they complete the process by going to see Mr Hughes and filling out the honours form.

SLCs

It was a fantastic turn out at our Student Led Conferences last week, thank you so much to all the families that came along.  Our students loved sharing their learning with you, as well as discussing their current progress and next steps for the remainder of the year.
If you have any further questions about your child's learning please contact their teacher via email or call the office to make an appointment.

After School Netball

The season has officially started and all teams are into the final round of grading games this week which will see them placed into a new grade for the remainder of the season. It has been a very exciting time for the girls and they look amazing in the new netball dresses. So far the girls have learnt new skills, how to work as a team and are adapting to playing at a higher standard. We have seen many close games and impressive wins through the teamwork and resilience that has been taking place. We had an excellent display of this by 8/1 who are featured above.
We look forward to hearing and seeing more amazing results as the season progresses.

C@P Fundraisers

This year our school PTA, (called C@P or Community at Pasadena) have organised two fundraisers for the school this term. The money raised from these will be used for important digital equipment and furniture for our flexible learning classrooms.

The first fundraiser is the Whittaker's Chocolate seller and students have been busy selling New Zealand made boxes of chocolates for $2 each. The prizes up for grabs include 2 bluetooth speakers, vouchers and an Atlas touchscreen 2 in 1 Notebook as pictured (note: these are a slight variation to the originally listed prizes.)
Please have all money and or unsold boxes into the office by next Tuesday 11 August.

Annual Pasadena Intermediate Quiz Night on Friday 4 September, "Superheroes and Supervillains".

Tables of 8 pax will be $240, including pizzas.

For more information, contact Michelle on michelle.jerome@xtra.co.nz or 021 388 206.

We still need your help too - with set up or help on the night, as well as raffle and auction items.

Many thanks!

Community at Pasadena (C@P)

Science Roadshow

On Tuesday 21st July, Pasadena had the Science Roadshow come to our school. The Science Roadshow is a mobile science discovery centre that travels the length of NZ in a 16-metre truck and trailer, bringing a range of cool science and technology activities to schools. The students had heaps of fun using the interactive exhibits and watching the live shows “Balloons and Bernoulli” which covered the concept of pressure, and “Kitchen Chemistry” which showed concepts such as molecular weight and viscosity, as well as the density of liquids. This was a great programme that strongly supported the Nature of Science strand, as well as broadening the students' knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Production

What an exciting time! We had our first official rehearsal for Moana on Tuesday. The acting cast had the opportunity to all get together and do our first read through of the script, listened to all of the songs, and looked at some of the choreography. There will also be some additional rehearsals during class time, which students will be notified about in the notices.

We are looking for a couple of things that will be helpful for the production, so if you have any of the following items, would you please email talia@pasadena.school.nz. We need baskets for the villagers, oars for the wayfinders, and large fishing nets for our fisher people.
