Principals News

It’s been pleasing to see all of our programmes up and running across the school.  Having a holistic approach to education is an integral part of an Intermediate School. Hearing students buzz about what they are doing and experiencing really makes me happy as a Principal. We are looking forward to adding further experiences as he year progresses.

Over the past 2 weeks, we have started our transition programme for Year 6 students attending Pasadena in 2023. Our students and staff have done an amazing job showcasing the school with tours and speaking about their experiences over the past 2 years. The students have an amazing insight into how our school operates and runs.

Student Led Conferences

Thank you to everyone who came to Student Led Conferences last week. The students loved celebrating and sharing their learning with you - what they are proud of, next steps, goals, action plans as well as their assessment results and learning maps. We hope you enjoyed having a rich and meaningful conversation with your child and their teacher, leaving with a deeper understanding of what they are learning and the progress they are making. If you have any concerns or would like to discuss your child’s learning more indepth, please contact their classroom teacher to make an appointment.

Data Collation - Trends

Now that mid-year reports have gone home with curriculum levels against the end of year expectation, we have now analysed the data school wide. Below is some key information that has been identified:

  • On average, 86% of all students will either reach or exceed the end of year expected curriculum level in Reading, Writing and Maths if current progress is maintained.
  • On average, 75% of all Māori and Pasifika students will either reach or exceed the end of year expected curriculum level in Reading, Writing and Maths if current progress is maintained.
  • On average, 91% of all Rumaki students will either reach or exceed the end of year expected curriculum level in Pānui, Tuhituhi and Pāngarau. 73% of all Rumaki students will also either reach or exceed the end of year expected curriculum level in Reading and Writing (English Medium).
  • Students who are not on track to reach the end of year expected curriculum level are supported by additional programmes (Accelerated Literacy or Numeracy, Learning Staircase, ESOL lessons and/or Power Reading).

Teachers have also analysed their class data - identifying trends, strengths and areas for improvement.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns about your child and their learning, please email their classroom teacher to request a meeting.

Student Strategic Planning Group

On Tuesday 9th August, our student leaders did an amazing job presenting to the Board of Trustees. It was great to hear all about their initiatives and future visions for their chosen strategic areas. Below is a brief summary of the 7 different areas.

Health Consultation

Pasadena Intermediate implements a programme of Health Education based on the New Zealand Curriculum and in keeping with the school’s charter and values. The focus of the programme gives our students the knowledge, skills and attitudes to maintain and enhance their well-being. Pasadena teachers use a range of teaching approaches and learning contexts to develop students understanding of these concepts and aim to equip them with the skills needed to make health-enhancing life choices.

Every two years, we like to provide the opportunity for students, teachers, parents and whānau to contribute to and enhance learning in our Health Education programme. Can you please fill out the short survey so we can refine and revise our Health Education programme based on our communities needs and interests.

AIMS Games

The AIMS Games are officially around the corner! The Netball team have done a fantastic job fundraising at school and during the weekend to get themselves down to Mount Maunganui. The girls are looking forward to competing on such a large stage and representing Pasadena. I know they will do us proud.

Thanks to everyone who has supported the team through donations. We are all very grateful.

Roadshow 2022

During the last few weeks of Term 2 and the beginning weeks of Term 3, a wide range of groups performed at the local primary schools as part of the Pasadena Roadshow for 2022. Students from Kapa Haka, Samoan Siva, Impromptu Drama, Dance groups and more all performed for students of primary school age to showcase Pasadena and give them a taste of all the incredible opportunities we have on offer. It was great to see the enthusiasm that all students demonstrated especially when on stage and performing to their audiences!
