Principals News
This time of year at Intermediate Schools is always interesting, with the Year 8 students starting their transition into College and Year 6 students starting to visit our school ready for 2022.
For Year 8 families, it is important that you have touched base with the Secondary school that your child will attend. If you need any help with a contact, please get in touch with the school office.
For the Year 6 families who are enrolling, we have several opportunities to help them transition into Intermediate school. These include School Tours with the Senior Management, Expo Days, Parents information night and an Orientation Day for enrolled students.

|
As part of supporting the positive transition of our Year 8 students to high school, we share pastoral and academic information with the student's chosen Secondary school. If you do not wish for this to happen please email our Deputy Principal at mary@pasadena.school.nz

Science Roadshow
On Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th July, Pasadena had the Science Roadshow come to our school. The Science Roadshow is a mobile science discovery centre that travels the length of NZ in a 16-metre truck and trailer, bringing a range of cool science and technology activities to schools. The students had heaps of fun using the interactive exhibits and watching the live shows “Experimenting! — He Whakamātau!” which covered aspects such as hypotheses and predictions, gathering and interpreting data and critiquing aspects of the investigation. The second show was called “Up, down, all around — Ki runga, ki raro, huri noa” which focussed on gases in chemical reactions and explosions, dissolving of oxygen in water as well as coloured gases. This was a great programme that strongly supported the Nature of Science strand, as well as broadening the students’ knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Chess Club
On Friday 30th August the first ever Pasadena Intermediate Chess team competed in the Central Zone Chess Tournament at Mt Roskill Grammar School.
20 students made up 5 teams, each player competing in 6 games of Chess
The competition was incredibly tough!
Our best team was Pasa C who came 13th out of 31 teams - Rico Rm6, Finlay Rm6, Corey Rm6 and Chris Rm5.
We had a really good day - it was exciting. We learnt a lot and had some ups and some downs.
Thanks to Mr Ward for organising us. Thanks to the parents who helped transport us to and from the tournament and thanks to Mrs Allington for supporting us.

Epro8 Challenge
We are so proud of all our students who took part in the EPro8 challenge last week, especially our Pasadena Top Teams! Students had to be strategic in order to use both their teammates' strengths and collect as many points as possible, not all sections held the same points value! These students can rise to any challenge, are solutions-focused, and able to work well with others under pressure! A huge congratulations to our top teams who qualify to represent Pasadena Intermediate in the next part of the EPro8 tournament against other schools!
SKITTLES: Rm 6 Tilly, Olive, Zara.G, Elodie - 180 points
THE KIRMIRTS: Rm 13 Lorin, Austin, Ahkin, Tnias - 180 points

PB4L School Reward
As a part of our PB4L token system, we fill our class token jars before putting our tokens into the school jars in the office. As each of the letters have been filled twice, we will receive our first school-wide reward of the year this week. Students chose a block of device time for this. During this time, students will be allowed to spend a block on their devices playing educational games.

As a part of our Unit of Inquiry this term (How the World Works), students will be attending MOTAT workshops in Week 5. During this workshop, students will take part in hands-on physics activities. They will also get some time to have a look around MOTAT as they will be there for the day. Classroom teachers will be sending out an email this week looking for parent helpers. Please let them know if you are able to help on the trip.
Below are the days that each class will be attending the trip.

Central Zone Boys' Netball
Malo e lelei,
On Tuesday 3rd of August, Pasadena intermediate sent two teams to compete in the Central Zones Netball Tournament. The boys showed a lot of pride when playing, they were supportive of one another and did not let the weather stop them from playing some fabulous netball. Our year 8 team played back to back games beating Ponsonby Intermediate, Balmoral and also Kowhai. The boys came fourth overall and should be proud of their effort. The highlight of the day was our undefeated Year 7 boys team who beat all the schools in their pool. These included Royal Oak, Remuera, Waiheke and Kowhai. They faced Kowhai in the semi's and won and then went on to win against Waikowhai to come out on top as the champions for Central Zones for year 7's for 2021.
